ENTER THE UNG MOON CHALLENGE!

Have you ever wondered what made Bruce Lee so great? Was it his speed, power, or strength? Was it his extraordinary way of being able to predict what you were going to do before you did it?

These are all attributes that he further developed into sharp tools to aid him in overcoming many opponents, but how do we know what to focus on if everyone is born with different strengths and talents?

FINDING THE THREAD

Beyond attribute, talent, and technique, there is a commonality of motion or common thread that binds all things together. If we pull on this common thread, it will shine a light on specific concepts that will further our understanding and help us transcend beyond any punch or kick.

Ung Moon, also known as the Five Gates, or Five Defenses, is a training format that will help you find the hidden concepts that Bruce Lee used to develop his attributes and elevate his abilities.

THE VALUE OF UNG MOON

The Five Defenses learned in this structure aren’t defenses at all. They are counter-offenses based on simultaneously blocking and hitting. Employing this as a strategy takes away the concept of defense altogether, giving you the ability to stop your opponent in mid-flight of their attack on you.

In the long term, you want a balanced method of training that provides you a way to practice on both sides of your body. Ung Moon develops your left and right side, giving you the ability to attack or counter-attack from all sides, as well as in any position.

Ung Moon’s Five Gates translates into five sectors or five reference points. These help you identify where the attack originates from; and where it will be landing on your body. Recognizing this will help you access the most appropriate movement to use, which will increase your response time, and ultimately lead to a higher success rate.

Ung Moon also teaches you the economy of motion through learning the Center Line and Mother Line Concepts. The quickest route to any target is a straight line, and every angle of attack or counter-attack trained in the Five Gates indirectly betters our ability to score in every exchange.

THE UNG MOON CHALLENGE

This five-week challenge will not only teach you the Ung Moon Structure but also help you understand each range of motion. It will follow a five-day-per-week format that requires less than 10 minutes per day, making it fit within anyone’s busy schedule.

Each day of training, you can follow along as we progressively build one technique after another through three different ways of training. You will warm up during the Flow Method by discovering a new range of movements every day of your challenge.

After being introduced to the format for the day, you will become more familiar with that motion as you slowly work through the Dynamic Tension Method. This isometric style of exercise will give you “Push-Pull” training that many of us desperately need. It will also reinforce the use of your core as you explore each range of motion with a long style of breathing.

Combining the Flow and Dynamic Tension Methods will create the Explosive Power needed to accomplish your end goals with each technique. During this section, you will execute the day’s Ung Moon structure as if you are firing each movement while engaging an opponent. After you repeat this method five times, you will complete that day’s challenge format.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

The beauty of the Ung Moon Challenge format is that anyone can participate. That makes it a great training tool for beginning students, JKD practitioners, and even fighters. Often enough, we know what we need to do when it comes to getting better at something. The dilemma is researching, formatting, writing, and finally starting something. Whether you have been exposed to Ung Moon’s structure or not, take our Challenge and see how not only your ten-minute commitment per day will enhance your training; but also your perspective.
